- Exciting new forest school nursery coming to Stobhillgate this September! You may have heard the exciting news that here at Stobhillgate First School we are creating a new forest school provision for the children. We will be working in collaboration with Explorers who are an established ‘Outstanding’ forest school based in Wylam, Northumberland. We will be opening a new 0-2 year old nursery and merging our already excellent nursery to work alongside Explorers to offer a forest school-based nursery and wrap-around care for 2-4 year olds. In addition to this, we will also be offering holiday clubs for all ages, meaning the school will be open 50 weeks of the year! If you already have a nursery place with us at Stobhillgate, this will not affect you as we are simply opening up to younger children and enhancing what we already do to ensure your child gets the best possible start to their school life. Year 2 Science this term has been full of fun experiments! This week, have been testing shock absorbency. We tested 3 different materials to see which one would be the best at protecting an egg when it hits the ground.
The experiment - To test which material would protect an egg when dropping from height.
Before the experiment, we made a prediction - We thought that the cotton wool would protect the egg the best.
We thought very carefully about how to keep the test fair, we all had the same amount of paper, water and cotton wool. We also dropped them from the same height.
It was then time to set up our experiment! We all dropped our eggs and found that our prediction was correct. We had 1 egg survive! This egg was protected by the cotton wool as it gave it a soft cushioned landing and the cotton wool absorbed the shock of the drop.
This was lots of fun! 🥚👩🔬🧑🔬 ... See MoreSee Less
